Carbon shelter receives grant from groups
A presentation was held at the Carbon County Friends of Animals, 77 W. 13th St., East Jim Thorpe, during which the shelter received a grant in the amount of $3,500.
The money was donated by the Jim Thorpe Rotary Club, the Lehighton Rotary Club, Rotary District 7410, the Jim Thorpe Lions Club and the Carbon Career & Technical Institute.
In addition to the money, the participants in the presentation also donated boxes full of supplies from the CCFOA’s wish list, which is posted on the shelter’s website.
Speakers at the presentation included Jeanne Miller from the Jim Thorpe Rotary Club, Susan Lovejoy from the Lehighton Rotary, Tim Genetti from Rotary District 7410, Jim Logue from the Jim Thorpe Lions Club, and Hal Resh from the Carbon Career & Technical Institute.
Other members from the groups, along with students from CCTI, also attended the recent presentation.
Sharon Alexander from the Jim Thorpe Rotary Club led the program, introducing speakers.
Susan Yaich, president of the CCFOA, expressed gratitude to all those who donated.
“On behalf of the Carbon County Friends of Animals, I would like to thank everybody that participated in the grant,” she said. “That includes the Jim Thorpe Rotary Club, the Rotary District 7410, the Jim Thorpe Lions Club, the Lehighton Rotary Club, and the Carbon County Career & Technical Institute.
“It’s very important here what we do. This grant is specifically for veterinary expenses which, as you can imagine, is high. Our population of cats here is never under 150 cats. So, this will go towards spaying and neutering, the medications, anything that they need.”
Genetti from Rotary District 7410 said that the district was happy to be involved.
“They do wonderful work here, and we are glad to be able to help them this way,” he said.
The participants were then given a tour of the CCFOA facilities.
