From oil changes to engine overhauls, After Hours Auto Service in Tamaqua does it all.

Not only that, the 427 E. Broad St. garage services vehicles at times that fit most people’s busy schedules.

“I don’t want to take time off from work to take my car to a garage if I need something simple like an inspection,” explained co-owner Jackie Nalesnik.

And so when she and her mechanic husband, Tyson Nalesnik, opened the garage in August 2023, they set hours for when most people are finished their shifts at work.

After Hours Auto is open Mondays to Fridays from 3-10 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We’re here for the community and trying to keep our prices low,” added Jackie, who works in the garage’s office.

After Hours got its start when Tyson, who’s chief mechanic for the borough of Tamaqua, said he “blurted out” the idea to have his own business. Jackie, who works full time in the borough’s billing department, supported the idea.

Not long after, they began leasing the site for the garage.

The garage handles inspections, oil changes, tune-ups, tire installation and repairs, brakes, air conditioning repair, exhaust work, and engine and transmission repairs.

“We also do computer diagnostic work; we’re really big into that,” Tyson said.

He has repaired vehicles for local towing companies, area car dealerships and businesses with fleets of vehicles.

“I do a lot of stuff that other people don’t do,” Tyson said. “Or, they just don’t have the tools or equipment to do it.”

As for the work he does for businesses, he said, “They love it because we can do it when they’re closed. We can fix their vehicle, so they’re not down a vehicle.”

Tyson has been working on cars and other equipment since he was a teenager.

“I have experience with small yard equipment like lawn mowers all the way to off-road mining equipment,” he said.

Tyson and Jackie said they’re thrilled to have the garage in the community where they live, and help local residents and businesses.

They thanked their customers — and their family and friends for supporting them.

“People absolutely love that we have ‘after hours,’ ” Jackie said. “They’re happy that they don’t have to take a day off from work or worry about finding rides.”
