Zion Lutheran is the site for Alcoholics Anonymous meetings every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. as well as every Monday at the same time.

Eldred Township will be having its trick- or-treat night from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Display ends

The artwork display at the Kettle Creek Art Gallery of Claudia Hill from Brodheadsville and Joan Lech from Lehighton, “From Nature to Art,” will close Friday. Hours Thursday and Friday are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Friday deadline

The Helen G. Brown Award nomination will close Friday. The award, presented annually by the Monroe Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, goes to a person or organization that has contributed to a program of excellence that enhances the quality of life of county seniors.

Criteria include: Monroe County resident or group; significant contribution between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024; program of excellence established on a volunteer basis.

Nominations should be sent/taken to: Monroe County Area Agency on Aging, 724 Phillips St., Suite 102, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Forms are available on the agency’s website.

Annual bazaar

St. Matthew’s Laymen’s Fellowship in Kunkletown will host its annual bazaar from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

There will be a ticket raffle, tricky tray, bake sale, food to dine in or take out plus lots of fellowship. Soup will be available for purchase by the quart. Baked goods may be dropped off Friday from 9 a.m.-noon or brought on Saturday.

Raffle tickets may be purchased now or at the bazaar. See any Laymen’s Fellowship member for tickets.

Polk history

The Polk Township Historical Society will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at the township’s municipal building, 165 Polk Township Road, Kresgeville. All citizens interested in local history are invited.

Fall dinner

Effort UMC is having a roast pork and sauerkraut dinner from 4-6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The meal will feature roast pork lion, mashed potatoes, a vegetable, applesauce, roll, homemade desserts, coffee, tea and other beverages.

The church is an accessible facility.

Children under 2 eat for free. For other costs, call the church office at 570-629-1890.

New worship set

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, is holding a contemporary/young adult service at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Remembrance events

• Congregation members at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will remember their loved ones who have died by including them in their collective prayers and by the tolling of the bell during worship Sunday.

• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is asking parishioners to bring a photo of their late loved ones to Mass on Sunday. On Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., a special Mass of Remembrance will honor all loved ones. A special acknowledgment will be made of those whose funeral took place at Our Lady Queen of Peace since last All Souls Day, with a candle and their names read.

Breakfast buffet

The Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a breakfast buffet from 7:30-11:30 Sunday. There is a cost.

Block shoot

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club, 122 Gun Club Lane in Saylorsburg, will hold its next block shoot and meat raffle on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.

Food truck event

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is having a Taco & Grub Food Truck event at the church from 11 a.m. until the food runs out on Tuesday, which is Election Day.

The church will also be having a bake sale that day. Profit from the sale will benefit VALOR.

Gun Bingo

The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company in Kresgeville is holding a gun bingo on Nov. 8. Check the company’s page on Facebook for more details.

Pantry open

Effort UMC’s Supplemental Food Resource Center will be open from 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 8.

Hoagie sale

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is holding a hoagie sale. Orders will be accepted through Nov. 8.

PVEN benefit

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is celebrating Harvest Home on Nov. 9. Parishioners are asked to help by donating baked goods. The sale of the goods will benefit the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.

At the same time, the church will be accepting canned goods and nonperishables, which will also be donated to PVEN.

OTOH meeting

The next meeting of Operation: Touch of Home is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at the American Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert.

Coming soon

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced its second annual Christmas sale and basket raffle, which is from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 14 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 15.

Homemade pies and baked goods will be part of the sale.

Quilts, crafts

St. Peter’s UMC is holding a quilt and craft event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Nov. 15. Included is a silent auction of a king-size disappearing blocks quilt. In addition, there will be a dozen gifted craft vendors.

Filling sale

St. Matthew’s Laymen’s fellowship is accepting orders for filling. Orders can be given to any fellowship member or people can call the church at 610-381-2442 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until Nov. 16.

Filling orders may be picked up from 1-5:30 p.m. Nov. 25.

Cannoli sale

Zion Lutheran Church is accepting orders for 6-inch long cannoli, filled with Italian cannoli cream and mini-chocolate chips, throughout November. Pickup date is Dec. 6 from noon-3 p.m.

To order, call Ruth at 610-533-6211. All orders must be prepaid in cash or checks payable to Zion Lutheran Willing Workers.

VALOR needs

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, shares the information and list that VALOR is in need of help for homeless veterans.

The list includes: meats, potatoes, onions, carrots, radishes, mushrooms, apples, oranges, snack foods, soup, meals in a can/pouch/microwaveable and paper goods.

PVEN wish list

Getting ready for Thanksgiving is on the collective minds at the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network. The wish list includes turkeys and turkey breasts, gravy, cranberry sauce, canned yams, cornbread mix, stuffing, and pancake mix and syrup.

Shelf-stable donations can be dropped off 24 hours a day in the teal bin outside the food pantry, while perishable items can be dropped off on Monday and Fridays from 8-11 a.m. or at other times by appointment. Call the PVEN at 717-992-3136 to make arrangements.

River nominations

The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is asking folks to nominate their favorite river for 2026 River of the Year by 5 p.m. Nov. 21.

The winners from the past five years are not eligible. Those are: Delaware River (2025); Allegheny River (2024); Susquehanna North Branch (2023); French Creek (2022); and Shenango River (2021).
