Panther Valley communities have decisions in election

Voters in the Panther Valley area who live in the Lansford and Nesquehoning communities will have decisions to make in General Election balloting on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

That’s because there are contested races for borough council positions in those towns.

Otherwise, there are no challenged races in neither Summit Hill Borough nor the Panther Valley School District Board of Education balloting.

Here is a look at what voters will see on the ballots of the respective municipalities:

Lansford Borough

Six people are running for three four-year terms on the borough council that are up for grabs.

The candidates are Democrats Joseph Genits, Jennifer M. Staines and Ashley A. Nelson Hall and Republicans George Gilbert, Gwyneth A. Collevechio and Patrick Walsh.

Meanwhile, four other people who appear on the town ballots are all unopposed. They are Denise A. Leibensperger, who won both the Democratic and Republican nominations in May for a four-year term as mayor; Joseph Pavlis, who like Leibensberger, appears on both ballots for a four-year term as tax collector; Democrat Daniel Wynn, who is seeking a four-year term as judge of elections in the Middle District; and Democrat Jesse Durning, candidate for the four-year term as judge of elections in the West District.

No one is running for the four-year term as judge of elections in the East District, nor any of the four-year terms as inspectors of elections in the three borough voting districts.

Nesquehoning Borough

Four candidates are seeking three four-year terms on the Nesquehoning Borough Council.

They are Joshua J. Jacobs and Lisa Shubeck, who appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots, Democrat Mary A. Fox and Independent David Hawk.

There is only one other person on the Nesquehoning ballot, that being Patricia R. Vito, who in May won both party nominations for a four-year term as tax collector.

No one is running in the borough’s West and East districts for four-year positions of judges of elections and inspectors of elections in each district.

Summit Hill Borough

There are no contests in Summit Hill this time around.

Unopposed candidates include Karen L. Ruzicka, who is on both the Democratic and Republican ballots for a four-year term as mayor; Edward J. Kane, who is on both ballots for a four-year term on council; Joseph Weber, a Democrat seeking a four-year term on council; and Nathan R. Halenar, a Democrat seeking a four-year term as tax collector.

Also unchallenged are Harmony L. Smith, Republican, running for as four-year term as judge of elections in the First Ward; Barbara A. Shelton and Bryan A. Smith, Democrat and Republican, respectively, seeking four-year terms as inspectors of elections in the First Ward; Joseph J. O’Gurek, Democrat, seeking a four-year term as judge of elections in the Second Ward; Judith Midas, Democrat, running for a four-year term as inspector of elections in the Second Ward; Susan Colancecco, Republican, running for a four-year term as inspector of elections in the Third Ward; and Sandra Dellicker, Republican, seeking a four-year term as inspector of elections in White Bear.

No one is running for the four-year positions of judges of elections in the Third Ward and White Bear.

Panther Valley School Board

There is also no contest in the Panther Valley School District Board of Education balloting, as there are four candidates running for four four-year terms.

They are Shawn J. Hoben, Kim A. Laird, Ronald Shawn Yuricheck and Ryan Eidle, who each appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots.

The district also includes the vote totals in Coaldale.
