ON THIS DATE OCTOBER 29, 1974

The Jim Thorpe Transportation Company is celebrating its 43rd anniversary today, having had its founding on this date in 1931, a day after the Carbon Transit Company completed its last trolley car run.

The passenger rate then was only 5 cents. The fare today is only 10 cents higher.

The company was started by John A. Marzen, a former county commissioner, who began operations with two buses.

The company now operates 25 units with 32 full and part time employees.

Marzen continues to be active in the company as its treasurer, his son, Leonard, is the president and chief mechanic, and his wife, Margaret, is the company treasurer.

Steve Oblas, a veteran of 15 years of service, is fleet superintendent.
