Races set in Northampton County
The two Times News area municipalities from Northampton County — Lehigh Township and Walnutport — will participate in county at-large voting for county executive and council positions in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Lehigh Township voters have a challenged race for the six-year term on the board of supervisors. The township voters will also take part in the balloting for the four-year contested term representing Region 1 on the Northampton Area School District Board of Education.
Otherwise, there are no contests in either municipality, or for seats on the Northern Lehigh School District Board of Education, of which Walnutport voters are represented.
Here is a look at what voters will see on the ballots of the respective municipalities:
Northampton County
The four-year term as county executive is up for grabs, and Lehigh Township and Walnutport voters participate in the at-large voting.
The race is between Democrat Tara Zrinski and Republican Tom Giovanni.
In the at-large county council race, five people will be elected to four-year terms. Those candidates include Democrats David Holland, Theresa Fadem, Lorio Vargo Heffner, Jason Boulette and Nadeem Qayyum; and Republicans Sam Elias, John P. Goffredo, John Brown, Daniel Campo and Juan E. Martinez.
Lehigh Township
The supervisors race is between Democrat James T. Barnes and Republican Janet Sheats.
Unopposed candidates in the township include Republican Suzanne Hawke, who is running for the four-year term as tax collector; Republican Kristin Lorah-Soldridge, seeking the four-year term as judge of elections in the Danielsville District; Republican Jeannine Gerrity, seeking the four-year term as judge of elections in the Pennsville District; Democrat Patricia Amey, running for the four-year term as judge of elections in the Treichlers District; Republican Cathy Riley, seeking the four-year term as judge of elections in the Northwestern District; Democrat Cindy Rifenburg and Republican Randy Mertz, who are running for the four-year terms as inspectors of elections in the Danielsville District; and Republican Deborah Heckenberger, running for the four-year term as inspector of elections in the Pennsville District.
No one is running for the four-year terms as inspectors of elections in the Danielsville, Treichlers or Northwestern districts.
Walnutport Borough
There are no contests in the borough this time around.
Unopposed candidates include Democrat Wayne Weidner, who is running for the four-year term as mayor; Republican Kristine Wentling, aspiring to the four-year term as tax collector; and Democrat Jennifer Wentz and Republicans David Wentling, Nancy Treskot and Patrice Hunsicker, who are seeking the four four-year terms on the council.
No one is running for the four-year terms as judge of elections or inspector of elections in the borough.
Lehigh Township
The township voters will have a decision for the four-year term representing Region 1 of the Northampton school board. The candidates are Democrat Douglas Vaughn and Republican Zachary Kramer.
Northern Lehigh School Board
Walnutport voters will participate in the balloting for four four-year terms on the Northern Lehigh School District Board of Education, although there is no contest in that race.
Unopposed are Angela Williams, Gary Fedorcha and Crystal Bilby, while the fourth candidate, Timothy D. Weaber, is a Republican candidate.
No one is running in the district for a two-year term on the board.
Slatington Borough and Washington Township voters in Lehigh County also comprise the district.
