In hunger campaign, shoppers step up; diners next
Feed A Family days held at the Boyer’s Market in Tamaqua to benefit the Tamaqua Community Hunger Campaign received much support.
It was the first time for the event at the local market. Overall, 162 Feed A Family bags were purchased and shoppers donated $2,455 in cash, which was immediately converted to cases of food that filled the back of four pickup trucks.
The food is being distributed to Tamaqua’s four food pantries at American Primitive Methodist Church, Stokes Ministries, Trinity United Church of Christ and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, which serve over 700 families a month.
Dine out
The campaign continues this week with Dine Out Against Hunger days at participating local restaurants on Wednesday and Thursday.
The businesses have agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds from that day to the Tamaqua Community Hunger Campaign.
Restaurants participating on Wednesday are the Beacon Diner, Two Kings, Tommy’s, Gimbel’s and Sisters.
On Thursday, the participating restaurants are Basile’s and DiMaggio’s.
All proceeds benefit the four food pantries.
The Tamaqua Community Hunger Campaign is a project of the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, a 501 3(c) organization of lay leaders from area churches working together under the umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.
The campaign ends Sunday with the 14th annual Tamaqua Hunger Walk. Details are available by searching for “Tamaqua Hunger Campaign” online.
