2 facing charges after shooting at Halloween party

An 18-year-old and a 20-year-old have been charged with attempted murder following a shooting during a Halloween party held Friday night in Monroe County, resulting in a 16-year-old girl being struck by gunfire.

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said Benjamin Carl Booth, 18, and Unique Kaheem Johnson, 20, are in custody following the shooting.

Initially, Booth was taken into custody and charged while a while the warrant was issued against Johnson. It was reported he is also in custody this morning. Police did not provide residences of the arrestees.

They said the girl who was struck was transported to a local medical facility where she was treated for the gunshot wound. Police said she is expected to survive.

Police said they were called to a residence on Carillon Drive, Smithfield Township, at 11:42 for a report of a 9-1-1 hangup call. While en route, police said, they received information there was a large gathering in the area and that the girl had been shot.

Through their investigation, police determined the residence and street block were the scene of a large Halloween gathering. Police said Booth and Johnson argued with other people in the street. Police said as the parties separated, Johnson produced a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the other people. The girl was struck by a bullet.
