October 24, 1981 — The Northern Lehigh boys and Palmerton girls both capture team titles at the Centennial League cross country championships, held at Notre Dame. The Bulldogs’ Brian Waylan takes first in the boys race, finishing in 16:01 — 12 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Nolehi’s Blaine Waylen and Tim Roland end in third and fourth, respectively, while Palmerton’s Arthur Iris ends in fifth place. The Blue Bombers receive a first in the girls race from Georgianna Messinger (18:44), crossing 39 seconds ahead of runner-up and teammate Teresa Wargo. Two other Palmerton runners, Shari Barbosa (third) and Lori Moyer (fifth), place in the top-5. Lehighton’s Cheryl Beers is fourth.
