Lehighton man gets probation in arson case

A Lehighton man, who torched the house of a man who ran over and killed a West Penn Township business owner in 2023, has been sentenced to 5 years probation.

Barton MacConnell, 41, pleaded guilty to felony criminal mischief in August, court documents note. He received the probation sentence this week in Lackawanna County Court. He is also to have no contact with the victim, Michael Albert.

Police said MacConnell set fire to Albert’s unoccupied home in Scranton early in the morning hours of Aug. 3, 2023.

Albert was accused of intentionally running over MacConnell’s boss, Mark Boyle, with a dump truck after a payment dispute at Mark T. Boyle Welding and Industrial Sandblasting on Aug. 2, 2023.

Albert pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and theft of services and was sentenced to 23 months in prison earlier this year.
