Event rescheduled

Operation: Touch of Home reports that its announced Grocery Bingo at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building has been rescheduled. It is now slated for April 26, 2026.

Soup sale ends

Effort UMC’s current soup sale, with offerings including pork and cabbage with vegetables, and cream of broccoli with cheese, ends today. The pickup date is Oct. 27.

Open house

The Chestnuthill, Jackson, Eldred, Ross and Polk Townships Regional Planning Committee is currently reviewing and updating the regional joint zoning plan.

An open house is being hosted by CJERP from 6:30-8 p.m. tonight at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building, 271 Route 715, Brodheadsville.

An online community survey will be open until Nov. 28.

The survey invites input on topics including housing, economic development, the environment and quality of life. In addition to being online, paper copies of the survey can be found at each township’s building.

Missions dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a West End Missions dinner. It is Thursday and begins at 4:30 p.m.

Socktober underway

Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is conducting its Socktober event. To be part of the outreach to families in need, people can purchase new children’s, men’s and women’s socks in any size and drop them off at one of the following locations: Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville; PVEN, Sciota; St. Luke’s Brodheadsville Family Practice; or RE/MAX of the Poconos, Stroudsburg.

Bird seed sale

Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is holding its bird seed sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. To get an order form, visit mcconservation.org or call 570-629-3061. The center now takes credit card payments and orders over the phone and in person. The center is at 8050 Running Valley Road, Stroudsburg.

Harvest Feast

Cornerstone Community Church, Kunkletown, is holding a Harvest Fest on Saturday from 1-3 p.m.

There will be trunk or treat free to the community. In addition, there will be free games, food and an Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes drive.

Anyone who brings an item to donate to the drive will receive a free baked good from the bake sale. All proceeds from the bake sale will be used for Operation Christmas Child.

Family, Faith & Fun

St. Matthews’s EC Church, Kunkletown, is holding a Family, Faith & Fun event on Saturday from 3-5 p.m.

OTH seeks items

Operation: Touch of Home is seeking donations for troops overseas who are experiencing a lack of food and drink items, hygiene items and other things such as zip baggies, dust cloths, flashlights, etc. (No glass containers, please.)

Trunk-or-treat events

• An updated time for trunk or treat on Sunday has been announced by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. It is now 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the church parking lot.

The church is asking folks if want they want to host a trunk. If so, call the church office at 610-681-6137.

Wrapped candy is needed. That can be taken to the office.

And, the Vacation Bible School theme for next summer will be revealed.

• The Polk Township trunk or treat will take place at the parking lot at the back of the Polk Township Fire Company in Kresgeville from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.

Ongoing display

The works of artists Claudia Hill of Brodheadsville and Joan Lech of Lehighton are featured in a display at Kettle Creek Art Gallery through Oct. 31.

“From Nature to Art” will be on display during gallery’s hours: Monday to Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Pastors appreciation

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church is celebrating Pastors Appreciation Month with a special day of recognition for Pastor Scott and Kelly Carver and their three children — Tori, Lucas and Aiden — on Sunday.

Anyone who wishes may write a note of appreciation and put it in a special box in the church foyer. People may include a token of appreciation if they so desire.

Award nominations

Nominations are being accepted for the Helen G. Brown Award, which is presented annually by the Monroe Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council.

The award goes to a person or organization that has contributed to a program of excellence that enhances the quality of life of county seniors.

Criteria include: Monroe County resident or group; significant contribution between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024; program of excellence established on a volunteer basis.

The deadline for submission is Oct. 31.

Nominations should be sent/taken to: Monroe County Area Agency on Aging, 724 Phillips St., Suite 102, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Forms are available on the agency’s website.

Trick or treat

Eldred Township will hold its trick or treat from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31. The Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company will be on hand to monitor the event.

Angel Tree, toys

Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network has announced its holiday toy program for new toys and clothing for children ages birth to 12. Families must live in Chestnuthill, Eldred, Hamilton, Jackson, Polk or Ross townships in Monroe County.

Tree sign-ups continue through Oct. 28. Toys For Tots sign-ups are from Nov. 1 through Nov 25.

Polk history

The next meeting of the Polk Township Historical Society will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 1 at the township municipal building in Kresgeville.

In remembrance

On Nov. 2, congregation members at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will remember their loved ones who have died by including them in their collective prayers and by the tolling of the bell during worship.

Block shoot

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club, 122 Gun Club Lane in Saylorsburg, will hold its next block shoot and meat raffle on Nov. 2 starting at 11 a.m.

Christmas bazaar

Our Lady Queen of Peace church is holding its Christmas Bazaar on Nov. 14, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Nov. 15, from 9 a.m.-to 2 p.m.

PVEN wish lists

Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is planning Thanksgiving meals for the families it serves. Needed by PVEN to help those families are the following donations: turkeys and turkey breasts, gravy mixes, cranberry sauce, canned yams, cornbread mix, stuffing, and pancake mix and syrup.

Shelf-stable donations can be dropped of 24 hours a day in the teal bin outside the food pantry. Perishable items can be dropped off from 8-11 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays or at other times by appointment.

During September, the volunteers served the following: Food Pantry — 283 families, 859 individuals; Clothing Closet — 86 families, 298 individuals; Diaper Pantry — 129 families; and Menstrual Hygiene Pantry — 240 individuals.

Current needs for families are: coats and lined hoodies for all ages and sizes; winter gloves for all ages and sizes; body wash, lotion and deodorant; and blankets, sheets and towels.

The Diaper Pantry needs baby formula and baby food, and adult pull-ups and bladder protection pads.

Rebate reminder

The deadline for Property Tax/Rent Rebate for applicants 65 or older, widows/widowers 50 or older, or 18 or older with a disability has been extended to Dec. 31.

The amount to be issued is based on the applicant’s annual income, which must have been $45,000 or less in 2024.

Cannoli sale

Zion Lutheran Church is accepting orders for 6-inch long cannoli, filled with Italian cannoli cream and mini-chocolate chips, throughout November. Pickup date is Dec. 6 from noon-3 p.m.
