A glance at the races in the Palmerton area

Contested races exist in only one of four Palmerton Area municipalities, as well as in the school district balloting, for voters to consider on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

There is a race for both the supervisor’s and tax collector’s positions in Lower Towamensing Township.

Otherwise, there are no contests in Towamensing Township, nor Bowmanstown or Palmerton boroughs.

Here is a look at what voters will see on the ballots of the respective municipalities:

Lower Towamensing Township

Democrat Connie D. Brown is a candidate for both the six-year term on the township’s board of supervisors and the four-year term as tax collector.

In the supervisor’s race, she is facing Republican Ian Farrell, while in the tax collector’s race, her opponent is Republican Maxine R. Scherer.

Meanwhile, Lower Towamensing has no other contests. Unopposed candidates are Michael Takerer, Republican, who is seeking a two-year term on the board of supervisors; and Louise M. Koons, Democrat, who is running for a four-year term as judge of elections in the South District.

No one is running for two auditor positions, for two- and six-years, nor for four-year terms as judge of elections and inspector of elections, both in the North District, and inspector of elections ion the South District.

Palmerton School Board

Five people are seeking four four-year terms on the district’s board of education.

They are Stacey Connell, Erin Snyder and Earl Paules, who will appear as both Democratic and Republican candidates, Democrat Michael George and Republican Danielle Paules.

Magin Gursky, Republican, is an unopposed candidate for a two-year term on the board

Bowmanstown Borough

There are no races to be decided in Bowmanstown as seven candidates who appear on the town ballot are all unchallenged.

They are Sean McDermott, Republican, who is running for a four-year term as mayor; Ben Price, Democrat, and Wendy Borger, Darren R. Thomas and Candace Rodriguez, Republicans, seeking four four-year terms on the council; Kelly R. Solt, Republican, aspiring to the four-year term as tax collector; and Phyllis Kreiss, Democrat, seeking the four-year term as inspector of elections.

No one is running for the four-year term as judge of elections in the borough.

Palmerton Borough

The unopposed candidates in Palmerton are Bo Rodrigues, Republican, who is running for a four-year term as mayor; Democrat Kris W. Hoffner and Republicans Timothy K. Gursky Jr., Richard Nothstein and William Gallagher, who are seeking four four-year terms on the borough council; and Raquel Lutton, who is running as both a Democrat and Republican for a four-year term as tax collector.

Other unchallenged candidates are Lisa Snell Kern, Republican, who is running for a four-year term as judge of elections in the Middle District; and Francis J. Carazo, Democrat, and Richard M. Snell, Republican, seeking four-year terms as inspectors of elections in the Middle District.

No one is running for four-year terms as judge of elections and inspector of elections in both the East and West districts of the borough.

Towamensing Township

Six candidates who appear on the Towamensing Township ballots are all unopposed.

They are Scott Mosier and Susan Marques, Republicans who are seeking the six-year term on the board of supervisors and the four-year term as tax collector, respectively; Michael Christman, Republican, seeking the four-year term as judge of elections in the North District; Wendy K. Hoppel, Democrat, and Beverly K. Waibel, Republican, running for four-year terms as inspectors of elections in the North District; and Natalie K. Kleintop, Democrat, seeking the four-year term as judge of elections in the South-2 District.

No one is running in Towamensing for the six-year term as auditor, nor the four-year terms as inspector of elections in the North District, judge of elections and inspector of elections in the South-1 District or the inspector of elections position in the South-2 District.
