Where we live: October is chock-full of activities
Pumpkin festivals, hayrides and corn mazes.
Halloween parades and parties.
Costume-wearing and candy on trick-or treat nights.
Must-see haunted house attractions and movies.
Fall foliage, the time when fall leaves change their colors.
Apple picking.
Bonfires and campfires.
Drinking hot chocolates and apple cider.
Friday night football.
Perhaps more than any month on the calendar, October offers plenty of something for everyone.
This weekend is no exception as there are a litany of events set to take place throughout the region.
Both Lehighton and Palmerton will hold their respective annual Halloween parades.
Lehighton is set to host its event on Saturday, while Palmerton is scheduled to have it’s on Sunday.
Having previously covered/attended, I can tell you firsthand the passion everyone puts into organizing these events.
It’s a classic example of communities uniting together as one to recognize their creativity and showcase their talents.
Just a few miles across the river, Walnutport Canal Days is set for a two-day run Saturday and Sunday.
The second annual event — which replaced the annual Walnutport Canal Festival- features crafters/artisans, period reenactors, and historic demonstrations.
And for those who enjoy a good-old-fashioned fright night, a pair of renowned haunted house attractions are but only a few miles away in the Lehighton area.
Waldorf Estate of Fear and Devil’s Last Laugh in Lehighton are two must-see attractions for haunted house lovers who enjoy heart-stopping thrills.
A walk through both are certain to make your hearts throb and leave you trembling.
Then there’s also Major League Baseball’s fall classic The World Series.
Unfortunately, for fans of the Phillies, Mets, and Yankees, this year’s best-of-seven series is only a stark reminder of what could have been.
Last but not least, October marks the final time before the dreaded turning of the clocks back.
This year clocks will go back an hour on Nov. 2.
The good news is that from that point on, it’s only 126 days until we turn the clocks ahead.
But, who will be counting?
