Palmerton’s 34th Halloween Parade ready for Sunday
The 34th annual Palmerton Halloween Parade will step off at 4 p.m. Sunday. Rain date is Monday at 7 p.m.
Sponsored by the Palmerton Area Chamber of Commerce, the parade will form around 2:30 p.m. at the Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue area.
It will proceed up Seventh Street to Lafayette Avenue, where it will turn down Lafayette to Third Street.
It will then make a left on Third Street to Franklin Avenue, where it will turn left onto Delaware Avenue, and return to Seventh Street.
Susie Arner, parade chair, urged everyone to consider coming to downtown Palmerton for a fun afternoon to “meet up with friends and neighbors to see the creativity on the floats and in the costumes as both spooky and fun abound.”
“Our community is always welcoming to new folks and would love for more to join us,” Arner said. “While in Palmerton, take a walk or drive and see the scarecrows at many local businesses.”
Arner said it will be a four-division parade that will be comprised of the Palmerton Area High School Marching Band, firetrucks, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports teams and additional sports teams beyond Booster Club football.
“Our amazing park is always a great family spot before the parade for the young to enjoy the playground while the young at heart enjoy the benches and downtime,” she said. “Don’t forget we have awesome restaurants you can support while spending time in our downtown.”
In addition, Arner said the Palmerton Food Pantry will participate and collect donations of (in-date) nonperishable items along the parade route.
She said Palmerton Area High School Leo Club students will push carts in the parade to collect donations.
Arner said they encourage everyone to remain completely on the sidewalks to view the parade, as all candy will be handed out by folks walking.
She said late entries are due by Thursday to secure a spot in the parade, but they welcome everyone, so those who can’t get it to her should come to Seventh and Delaware Avenue between 2 and 3 p.m. Sunday to join in on a fun event.
“This event allows families to have an enjoyable time together during the craziness of all walks of life,” Arner said. “It’s not often enough that we can smile, relax, and just enjoy time together with those we care about.”
