October 14, 2000 — Matt Long completes 8-of-19 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns and runs for another score to help Jim Thorpe gain a 34-13 victory over North Penn. After trailing 7-0 after the first quarter, Long connects with Mike Cody for a pair of TD tosses in the second frame to give the Olympians the lead. The first score goes for 77 yards with the second a 7-yard tally. Long adds a 22-yard dash to the end zone in the third frame and also hits Earl Kunkle with a 60-yard scoring pass. Kunkle secures the win for Thorpe, coached by Mark Rosenberger, with a 26-yard TD run. Dave Melicharek also excels in the ground gain, rushing for 108 yards.
