Fundraiser benefits Jim Thorpe animal shelter

The Carbon County Friends of Animals held their Bingo and Basket Auction fundraiser Sunday afternoon at the Orioles Community Center in Lehighton.

The afternoon included a variety of regular and special bingo games, with prizes ranging from lottery tickets, cash and designer purses.

There also was a 50/50 drawing, door prize drawing, and anyone bringing items from the animal shelter’s wish list was entered into another drawing.

The kitchen served hot dogs, beefaroni, macaroni and cheese, baked goods, and drinks.

And, of course, there was the basket auction.

“We had approximately 90 gift baskets and gift cards,” said Pam Poeldnurk, from animal shelter. “We really appreciate the public’s support, donating items and joining us here today.”

Baskets included a basket of snacks, pet supplies, baking supplies, home decoration items, Halloween, autumn, and Christmas gifts, and more.

The group also raffled off a dog bed and supplies.

Funds will be used by the shelter to care for the approximately 140 cats and kittens currently residing at the facility at 150 W. 13th St., Jim Thorpe.
