Postseason play to begin for several area teams
Eleven Times News area teams have qualified for league postseason play, which begins Saturday across multiple sports and leagues.
Colonial League
Northwestern leads the local contingent, advancing to postseason play in boys and girls soccer, field hockey and volleyball. Jim Thorpe (boys soccer), Lehighton (girls soccer) and Palmerton (field hockey) also secured spots.
Field hockey quarterfinals open Saturday, with No. 6 Palmerton facing No. 3 Bangor at Catasauqua at 9 a.m., and No. 5 Wilson taking on No. 4 Northwestern at Southern Lehigh at 11 a.m.
Colonial League boys and girls soccer quarterfinals are Monday at Jim Thorpe, with No. 8 seeds Lehighton (girls, 5 p.m.) and Jim Thorpe (boys, 7 p.m.) both facing top-seeded Northwestern.
The volleyball semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday at Catasauqua, with No. 2 Northwestern meeting No. 3 Saucon Valley at 7 p.m. The championship match is set for Thursday at 6 p.m., also at Catty.
Colonial League cross country championships will be held Wednesday at DeSales University at 3 p.m.
Schuylkill League
Marian and Panther Valley will represent the area in volleyball playoffs.
Marian opens with a quarterfinal matchup against Blue Mountain on Monday at Minersville at 5:30 p.m. Semifinals are Tuesday at Martz Hall, where Panther Valley will face the Marian/Blue Mountain winner at 5:30 p.m. The league championship is Thursday at Martz Hall at 7 p.m.
Schuylkill League cross country championships will be held Wednesday at White Birch Golf Course at 3 p.m.
Eastern Pennsylvania
Conference
Pleasant Valley has qualified in both boys soccer and volleyball.
The volleyball team opens Saturday in the quarterfinals at Freedom at 2 p.m., while the boys soccer squad travels to Northampton for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal on Tuesday.
EPC cross country championships are set for Tuesday at DeSales University at 2 p.m.
