Weatherly School Board
Weatherly Area School Board conducted the following business:
• The school board approved hiring Melanie Sepulveda-Rosado as a full-time English as a Second Language teacher (Step 1, Bachelor) at a salary of $50,251 and benefits per the WAEA contract effective upon completion of all required paperwork and clearances.
• The program currently has eight students, with five more potential students being assessed.
• Adult Men’s Basketball (contact: Luke Medico and Robert Bryan) use of middle school and high school gymnasiums on Sundays from 4 to 7 p.m. beginning on Sunday to June 28, 2026, pending the submission of all required paperwork.
• Weatherly Youth Basketball (contact Courtney Delman) use of high school gymnasium and stage Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Nov. 30 to March 31, 2026.
• School board director Tyree Harris asked the board if it would make sense to charge organization to use the school facilities.
“We have to turn the power on, and someone has to clean up afterward. I think we’re helping out, but we can’t keep giving stuff away for free without receiving anything in return. We have to run this school like a business.”
Superintendent Daniel Malloy advised that the current policy allows the school to charge for-profit entities to use the facilities.
“There is no policy to charge nonprofit organizations,” Malloy said.
• The board approved the transition of the Mauch Chunk CD to the PLGIT Prime Investment account to improve return on investment.
• The board approved the WASD Nutritional Services Procurement Plan per PDE guidelines.
