Hometown firefighters teach community about fire prevention

The Hometown Volunteer Fire Company hosted Fire Prevention Night on Tuesday at its fire station in Rush Township.

The event featured emergency response apparatus from across the area, along with a grease fire demonstration, smoke room and car rescue demonstration.

Attendees also learned about CPR, practiced emergency skills and witnessed what being transported in an ambulance is like.

Children could participate in an obstacle course, and all were invited to check out vehicles from the Hometown, Nesquehoning, Quakake and Ryan Township fire departments. Rush Township police were on hand with a police cruiser, and the Tamaqua EMS brought an ambulance.

The host fire company provided free hot dogs, drinks and popcorn.

The fire company thanked its ladies’ auxiliary, Soley’s Garage and Towing, Rush Township Police Department, Ryan Township Fire, Nesquehoning Fire Station 1, Tamaqua EMS, MedEvac, Schuylkill County Office of Emergency Management, Marie’s Lunch, Sub Zero Ice Cream and Sweet Inclusion for their participation.
