Weissport to trim dead branches in borough park
Several dead limbs on trees in the Weissport Borough Park need to be cut down before they fall, Weissport Borough Council said during its recent meeting.
One that is especially bad is a branch over the newly installed Liberty Bell, and over the statue of Benjamin Franklin, both in the northwestern corner of the park.
Council members voted to rent a lift from Country Junction for two days at a cost of $1,166.
The funds will be taken from the Park Safety account.
Temporary scaffolding has been erected over the bell, and will be installed over the statue to protect them until the branches are trimmed.
“It needs to be done before something falls and damages either of them,” Councilman Bill Hartzell stated.
Hartzell hopes to do the trimming between Oct. 14 and 16.
Jay Frey from Service Construction is donating the use of the scaffolding.
