St. Luke’s Hospice Bereavement Program is available in the form of virtual 90-minutes workshops. The next sessions are from 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday and 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

• American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert will hold its monthly meeting from 7-8 p.m. Thursday.

Benefit pull
The Pocono Old Tyme Farm Equipment Association is having its annual Benefit Pull on Saturday at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. The pull will start at 10 a.m.
There are no trophies or prizes. All proceeds will be allocated to local Monroe County Livestock 4-H Club members.

Fresh soup sale
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a fresh homemade soup sale after all the Masses this weekend.
The fresh soups sale will benefit the NCYC youth.
Bridge Ministries
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is collecting socks, gloves, hats, canned food with peel-off lids, men’s boots, women’s boots, personal hygiene items and gas cards for its Bridge Ministries with the homeless on Saturday. Donations can be placed in the lobby collection bins.

Pet blessings
• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold its annual pet blessing at 11 a.m. Saturday near the St. Francis statue.
• Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will hold its traditional pet blessing at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Block shoots start
The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is resuming its block shoot and meat raffle events. The public is welcome.
The first one will be held Sunday starting at 11 a.m. at the club’s home at 122 Gun Club Lane in Saylorsburg. It is a 12-gauge shotgun-only event.

Environmental Day
Polk Township has created an Environmental Day to be celebrated Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
It will feature food, music, a pumpkin patch, face painting, kid’s crafts, a petting zoo, cider pressing and more.
The event at Polk Township Walking Park in Kresgeville is scheduled to be held rain or shine.
Life chain
Members of Our Lady Queen of Peace church will be assembling from 2-3 p.m. Sunday and facing Route 209. They will meet near the chapel to pick up signs at 1:45. Participants will be reciting the rosary peacefully.
Grief Share
For those experiencing grief, Mount Eaton Church in Saylorsburg hosts a Grief Share meeting every Sunday from 2-4 p.m.

Seed donations
The Western Pocono Community Library has announced that its seed exchange will return in the spring of 2026 “while supplies last.”
There is seed exchange box located in the circulation area. Donations of seeds are welcome.
Rosary bonfire
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a Family Rosary Bonfire from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday.
It includes a bonfire, s’mores, games and the rosary.
Attendees are asked to “bring a friend, bring your family, and bring a chair (or a blanket)!”
Bingo Nite
American Legion Post 927 hosts Bingo Nite every Monday beginning at 6:30 p.m. with card sales. Playing begins at 7 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
It is an event open to the community.
PTO meeting
The Pleasant Valley Elementary/Pleasant Valley Intermediate PTO meeting is set for 4 p.m. Oct. 8.
Sale at church
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is holding a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11.
The kitchen will be open for lunch, and baked goods will also be sold.
Fall festival
The Monroe County Conservation District is hosting a Friday Night Fall Festival from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center. It will include crafts, games, nighttime adventures and a hike. The evening will be capped off with s’mores and stories around the campfire,
Participants are encouraged to dress in a fall theme or wear a Halloween costume.

Meet the Artists
It’s time to greet the artists whose work will be on display at the Art Gallery at Kettle Creek from Oct. 11 through Oct. 31.
Meet Claudia Hill of Brodheadsville and Joan Lech of Lehighton at the gallery between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 11.
Their work, titled “From Nature to Art,” will be on display during gallery hours, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 and Oct. 25.
There is no charge and preregistration is not required.

Museum open
The Ross Township Historical Society Museum, located at 258 Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg, will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 11. All are invited to discover, remember and/or learn about Ross Township’s history and the people who formed the community.
The museum is free of charge and all are welcome.
Touch of Home meeting
Operation: Touch of Home will be meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.
Medicare enrollment
Monroe County Area Agency on Aging reminds people that the annual open enrollment period for Medicare will run from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7.
Trained counselors for the county’s several senior centers are available at no cost.
The West End’s Senior Center is at Zion Lutheran Church.

Bird seed orders
The Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is holding its fall bird seed sale this month. The sale will feature Aspen Song Bird Seed blends. Also offered, through the gift shop, are Droll Yankee and other feeders.
Order deadline is Oct. 17. Call the center at 570-629-3061 to place an order over the phone or have an order form mailed. Order forms are also available at www.mcconservation.org. Hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and some Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Book launch
Klingel’s Farm Store in Saylorsburg, at 415 Route 115, will be the site for a children’s book launch from 3-5 p.m. on Nov. 8 by Deborah Niemoczynski of Saylorsburg. Her book, “Raising Ruth,” is a 32-page “softcover book based on a story of a young Pennsylvania farm girl in the 1920s.”
The story of Ruth “gives insights into the lifestyle of farmers at that time and is set in a rural farming community with fields, crops, and animals. Ruth’s story recalls her life, encounters with nature, and experiences growing up on the farm with her family.”
The book launch will include storytelling, page readings, Q&A with the author, and light refreshments. It will be available for purchase.
Early notice
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced its second annual Christmas sale and basket raffle. It is happening from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 14 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 15.
Homemade pies and baked goods will be part of the sale.
Rebate reminder
The deadline for Property Tax/Rent Rebate for applicants 65 or older, widows/widowers 50 or older, or 18 or older with a disability has been extended to Dec. 31.
The amount to be issued is based on the applicant’s annual income, which must have been $45,000 or less in 2024.
