Pleasant Valley board boosts some stipends
The Pleasant Valley School Board approved some small increases to stipends employees receive for after-school programs, and as chaperones and advisers. The addendum is to the supplemental contract that covers the school years from 2025-26 through 2028-29.
In the addendum, teachers and nurses for an after-school program will get an extra $1 per hour, bringing their pay to $46 per hour this school year, then $47, $48 and $49 for each subsequent year.
Paraprofessionals and health room technicians for after-school programs and chaperones also will get $1 per hour more. Those employees will get $29 per hour this school year, and then $30, $31 and $32 thereafter. Chaperones will get $54 per hour this year, and then $55, $56 and $57.
School board Director John Gesiskie asked Lori Fulmer, the director of human resources, what the difference is between the pay chaperones will get and bus monitors.
Fulmer said, “The sports bus rider is actually addressed in the supplemental agreement and it’s a safety manager. They’re paid per event.”
“The chaperone per hour is actually different and that involves people or teachers or staff that would chaperone a dance or a prom or something like that. We felt it was important to compensate them for their time to attract more people to do it.”
Gesiskie also commented that it was nice to see the pay increased for the after-school teachers and nurses in the tutoring program.
The addendum also increased the pay for the second summer play writing instructor and advisers for non-athletic competitive positions. They are all paid a straight stipend.
The play for the writing instructor will now be an extra $10 per summer bringing the stipend to $2,125 this year, then $2,135, $2,145 and $2,155.
The advisers for non-athletic competitive positions for high school and middle school for fall and spring will receive an additional $50 each year.
Those with the high school will receive a stipend of $2,450 this year, then $2,500, $2,550 and $2,600. Advisers for the middle school will receive $1,950 this year, then $2,000, $2,050 and $2,100.
Similarly, the Drama Club set designer for the high school for fall will get an extra $50 per year, bringing the stipend to $850 this year and $900, $950 and $1,000 thereafter.
