The influence and news coverage of the Times News & Record has been extended with the purchase of the Tamaqua Courier, a newspaper that served the Tamaqua and Schuylkill County areas for 103 years.

This afternoon’s edition of the Courier will be the paper’s last publication under its original banner. Beginning tomorrow, the newspaper will legally and officially be incorporated with the Times News & Record and the word “Courier” will be added to the banner of the Pencor Services newspaper.

The acquisition of the Courier is Pencor’s third newspaper purchase in five years. The company originally purchased the Jim Thorpe Times News in 1967, then added the Lansford Evening Record in July, 1968.

Claude E. Reinhard is chairman of the board and president of Pencor Services.
