The Carbon County Coroner’s office has released the name of the man killed in a crash Friday night on Route 940 in Kidder Township.

Nick J. Berkheimer, 31, of Hazleton, was pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. by Chief Deputy Coroner Jason T. Smith.

Smith said the investigation concluded that the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and burst into flames. Attempts to extricate the victim were unsuccessful by responding personnel.

The cause of death is thermal burns and blunt force injuries. The manner of death is an accident.

The Carbon County Coroner’s Office, along with the Kidder Township Police Department are investigating this death.
