State police report on Monroe County crashes

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks reported the following crashes:

• A-44-year-old Saylorsburg man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a two-vehicle crash at noon Sept. 1 on Interstate 80 in Pocono Township.

Police said he was driving a vehicle that “rear-ended” another vehicle.

Victims in the incident, all from Newfoundland, are listed as a 69-year-old man and 66-year-old woman; two girls, ages 17 and 13; and a 1-year-old boy.

Involved in the crash were a 2014 Nissan Murano and a 2024 Mazda. Police did not list any injuries.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:46 a.m. Sept. 16 at the intersection of Greenview Drive and the Neola Road in Hamilton Township.

Police said the crash occurred as Catherine M. Whelan, 66, of Effort, was driving a 2023 Subaru east on Greenview Drive when the vehicle proceeded through the intersection without proper clearance and was struck by a 2018 Jeep Wrangler operated by Basil G. Ledet, 59, of Stroudsburg.

Whelan was cited after the crash, according to police.

• Luis Sanchez, 50, of Kunkletown, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 9:03 p.m. Aug. 28 on Route 33 in Hamilton Township.

Police said he did not require an emergency medical services transport from the scene. They said the severity of his injuries is unknown.

They said Sanchez was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado that left the roadway and struck an embankment and large rock on the east side of the road.

He was cited after the crash, according to police.
