SS. Peter and Paul Church schedule
S.S. Peter and Paul Church, 260 N. Third St., Lehighton, announces its schedule:
• The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered on the Lord’s Day at 4 p.m. on Saturdays, at 7:45 and 10 a.m. on Sundays. Daily Masses are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and First Saturdays at 8 a.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is offered on Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. and about 30 minutes before Masses on Friday, Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
• Is it hard to see Jesus in the news? Look for Him at Eucharistic Adoration, Thursdays now from noon to 6 p.m.
• The Rev. Christopher Zelonis will host the Ascension series “Foundations of Faith: A Journey Through the Catechism of the Catholic Church” on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., beginning on Oct. 8. Attendees will watch and discuss the 30-minute videos, hopefully ending by 8:30 p.m.
• Each month SSPP parishioners make and serve 200 bag lunches for grateful veterans at the American Legion. Lunch includes a sandwich, fruit, chips, cookies and water. The church has received donations from the Lehighton FD, the Orioles, various area businesses and anonymous donors. Please help with a donation to SS. Peter and Paul Parish with “Veterans Lunches” in the check memo. We have a standard crew for lunch assembly, but we wouldn’t refuse help in that platoon either.
• The annual Clothing Drive, the proceeds of which go to assist the SSVDP in their charitable work, is extended through September. Accepted are usable men’s, ladies’ and children’s wear, pairs of shoes (bagged separately from anything else), bags, hats, scarves, towels, blankets, bedsheets, pillows, curtains, toys less than 2 inches, stuffed animals, bikes and strollers.
• The parish Society of Saint Vincent de Paul operates “Vincent’s Closet,” which makes available the above items and more, and accepts year-round donations of the same, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call Esther Meier at 570-657-6738.
• “Into the Breach” discusses the confrontations facing men, how to recognize the enemy and fight back to protect our souls and our families. Meet on Saturday mornings in the SSPP Hall at 8 a.m. (first Saturday sessions will begin in church with the regular 8 a.m. Mass). While the Knights of Columbus Damien Council #598 are hosting the program, men need not belong to participate.
• On the memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi, Oct. 4, Mass will be offered at 8 a.m., and Father will bless animals in the Coal Street parking lot at 9 a.m.
• The vigil Mass on Oct. 18 will take place at 6:30 p.m. to accommodate the Lehighton Halloween parade.
• The annual Halloween Fish Fry will take place on Friday, Oct. 31 from 4-7 p.m. in the parish hall on 307 Coal St. Meal includes fried haddock, french fries, stewed tomatoes, coleslaw, a beverage and a dessert, to enjoy on-site or to take home. Tickets are available by calling the rectory at 610-377-3690, or by purchasing them after weekend Masses.
