Palmerton Area School Board
The Palmerton Area School District Board of Directors approved a wide range of personnel and business items during a regular meeting last week:
Personnel actions
• Caitlin Hettler, guest teacher, effective Sept. 17. Guest teachers are paid $135 for days 1-19, $140 for 20-44, 150 for 45+ days
• Elizabeth Campbell, transferred from instructional assistant at Towamensing Elementary to English as a second language instructional assistant at S.S. Palmer Elementary, effective Sept. 17.
• Christine McCarroll, mentor for Brandi Hoffman, $1,520, retroactive to Aug. 18.
• Club advisers: Lisa Maderic, Mock Trial, $1,245; Holly Skrimcovsky, National Honor Society-JHS, $1,040.
• Revised stipends for previously approved advisers at S.S. Palmer and Towamensing elementary schools, each at $819.
• Joseph Plechavy, accompanist for Towamensing Elementary Chorus, 2025-26 school year.
• Resignations: Andrea Miles, reading specialist at S.S. Palmer, effective Aug. 15; Jenna McHugh, instructional assistant, effective Aug. 13.
• Tanya Hess removed as mentor for Andrea Miles, retroactive to Aug. 15, due to Miles’ resignation.
Other business
• Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 agreement for TransPerfect Remote Interpreters, July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
• DJ services agreement with Sean Hall for the high school homecoming dance Sept. 27 at a cost of $350.
• Music Theatre International contract for the high school Drama Club’s spring production of “Legally Blonde” on April 23-25, 2026, at $4,314.
• Field trip request for golf team to attend PIAA State Championships at Penn State University, Oct. 19-22.
• Public performances: Art Club to participate in PennDOT’s “Paint the Plow” program; band to participate in the Lehighton Halloween Parade on Oct. 18 and Palmerton Halloween Parade on Oct. 19.
• Gordon Walls, approved as a bus driver for George’s Transportation.
• Removal of Ryan Kish as assistant board secretary, retroactive to April 16.
• Jessica Cohen, appointed assistant board secretary Sept. 17, 2025, through June 30, 2029.
• Conference approval: Angela Friebolin, PASA New Superintendents Academy, Sept. 24-25, Nov. 6-7, Jan. 15-16, estimated cost $1,665.40.
• Board secretary authorized to cast votes for 2026 Pennsylvania School Boards Association officer candidates: Holly Arnold, president-elect; Matt Vannoy, vice president; Kathy Swope, insurance trustee; and Roberta Marcus, insurance trustee.
• First reading of policies: 105 Curriculum; 311 Reduction of Staff; 313 Evaluation of Employees; 317 Disciplinary Procedures; 317.1 Educator Misconduct.
