Fire engulfs Towamensing home

No one was injured after an early morning fire ravaged a home in Towamensing Township on Monday.

Towamensing Township fire Chief Cole George said firefighters received the dispatch at 5:38 a.m. for a fire at a single home at 10 Maxine Lane.

George said they were called for a possible four people trapped in the house, but that upon arrival the home was vacant.

“We could see the fire from about 2 miles out,” George said. “We got there and encountered fire out of the entire house, it was fully involved.

George said firefighters had the fire under control within about a half hour, but that the home is a total loss.

“We could only get one engine in, so we had to lay 5-inch hose out to the road,” he said. “We needed a bunch of tankers and manpower.”

George said the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation by a state police fire marshal who was already on scene.

He said firefighters cleared the scene around 8:30 a.m.

George said also assisting were the Franklin Township Fire Department, Lehighton Fire Department, Parryville Fire Department, Bowmanstown Fire Department, Polk Township Fire Department, and Kunkletown Fire Department.

He said the Diamond Fire Company of Walnutport RIT team was also called out, but were later canceled due to their being no interior operations.
