Prayer vigil in Lehighton to remember Charlie Kirk

A prayer vigil to honor the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk will take place Saturday in Lehighton.

The event will be held at noon at the Lehighton D & L Trailhead on Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.

State Rep Doyle Heffley posted word of the event Wednesday evening on his Facebook page.

“The gathering will be a time of reflection, peace and fellowship — values that Charlie deeply believed in and worked to uphold,” Heffley posted.

Heffley said all are welcome to attend. A brief program will also take place, he said.

“A lot of young people have reached out to me and asked if anyone was going to do anything in Carbon County,” Heffley said. “I just took it upon myself; it’s just going to be a prayer vigil, there are people who are going to say some prayers.”

Heffley said the event will serve as a prayer vigil and a time to reflect on Charlie Kirk. The theme would be a time for reflection.

“I know families and friends who are very passionate,” he said. “The guy was immensely popular.”

Heffley added the purpose of the event is to remember Kirk through reflection, peace and fellowship.

A conservative activist, Kirk was recently shot and killed while addressing an audience on the campus of Utah Valley University.

Kirk, 31, founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and built it into a conservative youth organization with national influence.
