September 19, 2001 —Tamaqua gains a sweep of Shamokin in Schuylkill League cross country action. Nick Birosik wins the boys race and sets a new course record with a time of 16:25 to help his team gain a 21-36 win. Birosik breaks his own record on the Raiders’ 2.9-mile course. The Kunkel twins — Jeremy and Josh — finish third and fourth with “identical” times of 18:12. The Raider girls win 20-40, as Liz Maness takes second for Tamaqua in a time of 21:07. Shamokin’s Joelle Reed also sets a new course record with a mark of 20:43. Taking third for the Raiders is Mary Lichtenberger.
