Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 18

Panther Valley, Northwestern and Lehighton all earned sweeps in volleyball action on Thursday.

Elsewhere, Northern Lehigh’s field hockey team posted an overtime victory over Moravian Academy.

VOLLEYBALL

N. Schuylkill-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley cruised to yet another win, sweeping past North Schuylkill in Schuylkill League action.

Morgan Orsulak led the Panthers’ attack with 17 kills, six assists, four service points and two digs, while JaeLynn Browdy finished with 17 assists, seven kills, four service points and two digs.

PV, still undefeated, also received seven kills and five aces from Jessica Hackash.

Northwestern ended a two-match losing streak, as the Tigers captured a Colonial League sweep over Pen Argyl.

The Tigers moved to 7-1 in CL action, as Leah Nagle paced the winners with 12 digs and eight kills.

Teammate Kayla Schaffer chipped in with 18 assists and 15 digs.

Tri-Valley remained undefeated and picked up a key Schuylkill League Division 2 victory against Marian.

Liv Lupole registered 20 kills for the Bulldogs, while Faith Melocheck collected 13. Kirra Klinger added 31 digs.

For the Fillies, Alena Lombardo finished with seven kills and Isabella Horvat ended with 12 digs.

Pottsville gained a Schuylkill League sweep of host Tamaqua.

Ava Schwartz had 12 kills for the Tide, while Rayan Brennan had 10 kills and 11 digs. Megan Yost finished with 38 assists.

For the Blue Raiders, Leah Black had six kills and 17 digs, while Millie Black ended with seven kills and 16 dogs. The host team also received 16 assists and nine digs from Madison Schock.

The Olympians received seven kills and 12 digs from Remy Gorski, while Maura Malaska added 18 assists and Aubrey Stamets finished with 18 digs.

Williams Valley took the final two games to gain a 3-1 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

The Wreckers pulled out a 26-24 win in the second set to tie the match 1-1, but the Vikings took charge after that.

Abigail Binder had 28 digs for Weatherly, while teammate Abby Weston added nine digs and 14 assists. Kelly Reiner chipped in with four kills and nine digs.

For the winners, Emily Miller had 31 digs and seven aces.

McKenzie Chruscial scored with 7:43 left in overtime to lift Northern Lehigh to a 2-1 Colonial League win over Moravian Academy.

Arianna Williams was credited with the assist on what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Ada Porobenski tied the game at 1-1 in the third period with an assist from Williams.

Aidan Granda’s goal in the second half was all Pleasant Valley needed to secure a 1-0 EPC victory over Allentown Central Catholic.

JT Morton was credited with the assist on the game’s only goal for PV, which has now won four straight games.

Pleasant Valley returns to EPC action Saturday when it hosts Pocono Mountain West.

Aveline Bubnis paced the Vikettes’ attack with two goals, while Elise Eisenhard, Emma Devers, Charlotte Patterson and Lilah Sollott all added single scores.

Pleasant Valley travels to PM West on Saturday.

The Blue Raiders’ Chloe Ryan earned a win in singles action, while the doubles team of Serenity Sanchez and Jasmine Eberts was also victorious.

Tamaqua closes out the regular season with a road match against Pen Argyl on Saturday.
