Tamaqua Area board reviews, OKs policies

The Tamaqua Area School Board moved quickly through routine agenda items and personnel Tuesday night, including reviewing and approving board policies.

The board performed its annual review of a policy regarding bullying and cyberbullying, which must be done as part of its Safe Schools report, Superintendent Ray Kinder said.

The board also approved the first reading of policies regarding salary determination and attendance.

The board is updating its attendance policy to reflect its practice of allowing five days for educational trips, or vacation, but not excusing additional days, Kinder said.

Early graduation for five 10th grade students was also approved. Three of the students are seeking early graduation to obtain work to help their families financially.

The board also approved homebound instruction for one elementary student, the 2025-26 Title I Non-Public Letter of Agreement and the donation of used books, toys and art supplies to local organizations.

The board also authorized its business administrator to approve repository sales and process payments and other routine items.

In addition, the board approved these personnel moves:

• Hired Megan Pries of Kingston as an elementary teacher at a salary of $48,030, and Leah Gehringer of Kempton as a certified school nurse at a salary of $60,818.

• Accepted the resignation of high school teacher Jacob Atherly, effective Aug. 4.

• Approved the professional substitute teacher lists and the substitute guest teacher list.

• Approved Audra Schlecht, certified teacher, as a mentor to Megan Rosahac, also a certified teacher.
