Walnutport Borough Council
Walnutport Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:
• Agreed to spend $6,500 to repair part of the street at Washington Street and Washington Spur, with 25% paid for by the Walnutport Authority.
• Discussed, but did not take any action on, a motion to replace windows in the police station and borough hall in the amount of $12,620. The borough will look to obtain additional price quotes.
• Agreed to have the Walnutport Canal Association have trees removed from around the pavilion/museum at the expense of the Walnutport Canal Association.
• Approved three trainings for police Chief Jason Nothstein in the amount of $737.
• Approved training for patrol officer Luis Garcia in the amount of $125.
• Tabled the purchase of new computers for patrol vehicles in the amount of $2,704.
• Approved a resolution to apply for an LSA grant in the amount of $100,000 for new police equipment such as bodycams, in-car cameras and Tasers.
• Approved a resolution to apply for an LSA grant for a new Public Works dump truck to replace a 25-year-old truck.
• Approved a street opening ordinance that states approval is needed by the borough’s street department or a PennDOT prequalified paver whenever someone comes in to do work and they have to repair the street.
• Approved the 2026 financial requirement and MMO as follows: Police department, $203,227, and Public Works, $16,160.
• Approved a trapping permit for Ronald Prutzman for 2025-26.
• Announced that a shredding and E-recyling event will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday in the borough hall parking lot, 417 Lincoln Ave.
