Carbon County man faces assault charges

A Lansford man faces criminal charges for allegedly assaulting a woman at an East Bertsch Street home Sunday afternoon.

Ronald Schwimer III, 42, was charged with strangulation, simple assault and harassment and jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000.

According to court papers, Lansford police were dispatched to an East Bertsch Street home for a report of a possible physical domestic in progress.

A man greeted police outside saying that he has been hearing screaming inside for more than 20 minutes.

The officer attempted to make contact unsuccessfully, and then heard a man screaming and a woman begging him to stop followed by what sounded like a person being slammed to the floor several times.

The officer attempted to gain entry, but was not able to. A door slammed and then a man identified as Schwimer came to the door, court papers said.

Schwimer was out of breath and sweaty, and was taken into custody and placed in a patrol vehicle.

The officer spoke to a woman on the second floor of the residence who had a cut to the side of her nose and visible bruising to her neck. She also had red marks on her forehead and shoulders as well as bruising to her ribs.

The woman told police that she returned home to find the door blocked, and she had to physically gain entry to her residence, which sparked an argument with Schwimer, court papers said.

She attempted to walk away from Schwimer, but he blocked her access to her bedroom, which she does not share with him, court papers said. She got past him, but he followed and kicked her door in, she told police.

Schwimer attacked her, pushing her to the floor, saying, “You are making me do this,” court papers said.

While she was on the floor, Schwimer kicked and punched her while holding her neck preventing her from breathing, court papers said.
