Two people are dead following a shooting Saturday in the City of Hazleton.
Hazleton City Police officers were dispatched to the Hilltop Apartments at 5:17 p.m. for a report of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, officers located two victims with gunshot wounds. One victim was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton, and later transferred to another hospital due to their injuries.
The victim’s condition is currently unknown.
The second victim was found dead from a gunshot wound.
A third person, believed to be the shooter, was found inside their residence with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and pronounced dead.
No names are being released at this time; however several Facebook posts say that one of the victims may have been a graduate of Panther Valley High School.
City police are continuing to investigate the incident.
A department official said it is believed the incident was isolated and there is no threat to the public.
City police were assisted at the scene by state police, officers from West Hazleton, Butler Township, Sugarloaf Township, Beaver Meadows, Weatherly and Penn State Hazleton, as well as the Hazleton City Fire Department.
The post says additional information on the incident will be released upon approval by the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office.
