One person is dead as the result of a motor vehicle crash in West Brunswick Township Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the southbound lanes of Route 61 at the Deer Lake intersection.

State police said Eduard Barcenas Moncada, 58, of Shenandoah was outside his 2006 Subaru Outback on Route 61 checking under the hood, at 4:05 p.m.

Derek L. Musser, 29, of Landingville did not see the Outback and hit the car with his Toyota Tacoma. The impact threw Barcenas Moncada, fatally injuring him. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.

A passenger in the Outback, Consuelo Barcenas, 21, of Shenandoah was taken to Lehigh Valley Schuylkill East for treatment.

Both vehicles were towed.

All four lanes of Route 61 were closed for several hours. State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the incident.
