Two men charged in Lehighton assault

A Lehighton and Palmerton man are charged with beating a man in a July assault.

Lehighton police say 38-year-old Jamalie Stanley and Jacob Allen attacked the man inside a home on South First Street early in the morning of July 13.

The man told police the pair accused him of stealing drugs, then beat him for nearly half an hour.

Around 4:30 a.m. July 13, police were dispatched to the parking lot of the Rite Aid in the 200 block of North First street for a man wishing to speak with police regarding an assault that had just occurred.

The man’s eye was completely swollen shut and the approximate size of a golf ball. There was blood on his face.

The man was treated for severe injuries, including multiple facial fractures, and required surgery.

According to the man, Stanley wore gloves during the attack.

He said the men took turns holding him down and striking him. At one point, he said, one of them suggested they should rape him. The victim said they tore at his clothes before he managed to escape.

The man said he got home from work and went into his room at a residence in the 100 block of South First Street when a man by the name of “Jamalie” as well as another man he didn’t know, accused him of stealing drugs. The two then began to beat him, he said.

Eventually, the man was able to flee.

He was transported by ambulance to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, trauma center.

Cpl. Bruce Broyles observed Stanley leaving his apartment with another man. Stanley identified the man who exited the apartment with him to be Jacob Allen, 25, who was going to work at the “high-rise.”

On July 15, the victim contacted Broyles from the hospital and said he required surgery as a result of this assault.

The man said Stanley struck him 10 to 15 times in the face, head and ribs, while Allen held his legs and punched him. Both men allegedly threatened to kill him if he told anyone.

On July 28, Broyles met with the victim, who identified the suspects in a photo lineup.

Both are charged with aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, terroristic threats and simple assault.

Stanley is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 monetary bail. Allen was released on $75,000 bail. Both are scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
