TURNPIKE CRASHES

State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 7:20 p.m. Aug. 28 at mile marker 85.4 in Penn Forest Township.

The crash occurred as Lauren R. Algeo, 35, of Croydon, was driving a 2010 Ford F-350 northbound when a tire blew out, causing her to lose control of the truck, police said. It struck the center concrete barrier and sustained disabling damage. The truck was towed from the scene.

Police said Croydon had four passengers: a 19-year-old woman and three girls, ages 5, 7 and 12.

• Injuries were averted in a rear-end crash at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 30 at mile marker 91.2 in Kidder Township.

Police said the crash occurred when a 2008 Honda CRV driven by Nathaniel D. Gillette, 30, of Wayne, hit the back of a 2017 Honda Ridgeline operated by Joseph P. O’Brien, 34, of Boyertown, after traffic slowed in the northbound lanes because of a dead bear in the left lane of travel.

• No one was hurt in a one-vehicle crash at 7:50 p.m. Aug. 30 at mile marker 79.4 in Franklin Township.

Police said the crash occurred as Ricky Angeles, 33, of Lancaster, was driving a 2021 Hyundai Venue northbound when he saw a deer enter the right lane. Police said he braked but lost control of the Venue, which hit the deer. The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

Police said that Angeles and a passenger, Anastasia B. Lehneis, 31, also of Lancaster, declined emergency medical services or hospital treatment.
