Schuylkill County Court
Nine defendants, including a Pine Grove man charged with third-degree murder, were sentenced to prison terms in recent sentencing orders handed down by judges in the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas. In four of the sentences, the arrestees were given state prison terms.
Detained on murder
• Kalvin Lee Clark, 37, of Pine Grove, was sentenced by Judge James Goodman to 20 to 40 years in state prison on a charge of third-degree murder leveled by state police at Schuylkill Haven barracks. He was charged with the death of his 73-year-old grandmother, Sharon Zimmerman, on Jan. 23, 2021.
Clark was also ordered to pay $11,940 in restitution to Greg and Shirley Clark — $3,390 for a funeral, $1,250 for a cemetery plot, $4,300 for a tombstone and $3,000 for the attorney for the estate.
He will also have to pay another $400.
Other state sentences
• Michael Williams, 22, of Shamokin, was sentenced by Judge Christina Hale to 6 to 20 years in state prison on charges filed by Mahanoy City police on March 9, 2025.
Williams was sentenced to 5 1/2 to 15 years on a charge of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and 6 months to 5 years on a charge of corruption of minors.
He will also have to pay $400.
• Jesus Nieves Rivera, 42, of Shenandoah, was sentenced by Judge Christina Hale to 2-1/2 to 5 years in state prison on a charge of arson leveled by Shenandoah police Dec. 31, 2024.
Rivera was also sentenced concurrently to 5 to 10 months on a charge of criminal mischief.
He was ordered to pay restitution of $183,677 to Housing and Redevelopment Insurance Exchange, $15,928 to the Schuylkill County Housing Authority, and another $350.
Nicholas Joseph Ganunis, 28, of Ashland, was sentenced by Judge William Burke to 7 to 15 years in state prison on a charge of aggravated assault leveled by state police at Frackville for an incident March 4, 2025.
He will also have to pay $400.
Schuylkill jail terms
• Ronald S. Gould, 57, of Lehighton, was sentenced by Judge Frederick Hobbs to up to six months in Schuylkill County Prison on a charge of driving under the influence-highest degree, made by state police at Frackville for an incident Dec. 20, 2024.
He will also have to pay $550.
• Dali Shaquantae Marshall, 32, of Kelayres, was sentenced by Judge Frederick Hobbs to 6 to 23 months in Schuylkill County Prison on charges filed by state police at Frackville for an incident Nov. 2, 2024.
The sentence on a retail theft charge was 5 to 12 months, and 1 to 11 months on a charge of false identification to law enforcement authorities.
Restitution of $528.96 will have to be paid to Walmart, plus another $400.
• Lonnie R. Stevens-Goldburg, 41, of Kunkletown, was sentenced by Judge Frederick Hobbs to up to 23 months in Schuylkill County Prison on a charge of simple assault made by Tamaqua police for an incident Jan. 7, 2025.
He must also pay another $400.
• Andrea Miller, 49, of Coaldale, was sentenced by Judge Frederick Hobbs to up to six months on a charge of driving under the influence made by Tamaqua police for an incident July 6, 2024.
She must also pay $214.62 for a bench warrant fee to the District Attorney’s Office; $113 to the Bethlehem Crime Lab; a $1,000 fine and another $275.
• Jacob Schopfer, 52, who was listed as homeless, was sentenced by Judge Christina Hale to 7-46 months on charges filed by two police departments for incidents earlier this year.
He was sentenced to 3 to 23 months on a charge of retail theft leveled by state police at Frackville for an incident April 9, 2025.
Schopfer was also sentenced to 4 to 23 months on a charge of flight to avoid apprehension made by Shenandoah police for an incident May 1, 2025.
He must also pay $800, and $9.98 in restitution to Boyer’s.
