Palmerton plans to tweak its outdoor burning ordinance.
Borough council recently approved the first reading/advertisement of an ordinance amending Chapter 64, outdoor burning.
Before the vote, resident Raberta Hans asked council if it could provide some information on the matter.
It was noted at that time there was an issue with people burning in town.
After the meeting, borough manager Autumn Canfield gave a more in-depth explanation.
“We rewrote the ordinance to ensure that it met with our intent of not allowing burning in the borough,” Canfield said. “The ordinance was not written very clearly.”
Canfield said she believes the changes will better define the ordinance.
“It also includes distance to structures is now defined,” she said. “It should provide for a better enforcement aspect for burning that we feel is unsafe within the town lines.”
