Letter to the editor: Support your local fire department

Hello, I have been an active resident in our township, attending regular monthly meetings.

It has been brought to my attention that the donation letters the local fire departments send out only have a 40% rate of return for the money they need to help them run their yearly operations.

“Forty percent,” give me a break! Everyone needs to contribute to there local fire dept. no matter what!

OK, the townships do contribute to the fire departments, but that covers the equipment they have to replace.

The tanker truck wore out, (your water heater wears out), the ladder trucks were out, (how many ladders do you own?)

The only problem is that this equipment is very expensive to replace ($1.2 million for the last unit purchased), so the generous contribution the township gives gets absorbed paying for these fire trucks.

Your yearly contribution from every household and entrepreneurs would go far to support your fire department, who risk life and limb, every time the call comes in!

The firemen that protect your township are volunteers. (We are very lucky to have them.)

I think supporting these heroes, is not only just, you will feel better also. Thank you for your time!
