A U.S. Representative’s office has helped Carbon County with a reporting issue to the IRS that could have cost taxpayers $16,000.
On Thursday, Commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko reported that due to a reporting issue with the way the county’s taxes were filed with the IRS, the county faced a fine for not having the funds reported correctly.
“If anybody has ever dealt with the IRS, you need somebody to really help you out with that,” he said, adding that Congressman Ryan Mackenzie’s staff in Carbon County “really stepped up to the plate and helped the county.”
Mackenzie’s staff worked with Kayla Herman, the county controller, to work through what happened that caused the delay in reporting and rectified the issue.
“It saved the county about $16,000 so that was nice to have government working together,” Sofranko said, publicly thanking Mackenzie’s staff for their time in this matter.
