Train excursions scheduled Fridays in Sept.

The Reading & Northern Railroad Passenger Department is on course for another record-breaking season.

The schedule of excursion offerings has expanded greatly in 2025, including the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway trains and the all-day trips from Reading and Pittston. Reading Outer Station is having an exceptional banner year.

The railroad announces the addition of September Friday all-day excursions from Reading to Jim Thorpe to the schedule.

The trips will follow the same format and operating schedule as their Saturday and Sunday counterparts.

Departure from Reading Outer Station will be 9 a.m., with an 11:05 a.m. arrival in Jim Thorpe. Passengers will have over four hours to dine, shop, explore the town, and even take in the sights on the 1 p.m. Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway train at a discounted price if they wish.

For its overnight guests, the flag stop at the Village at Housers Crossing is also available.

Reading & Northern CEO Andy Muller is quick to point out that prices for these all-day excursions have remained largely untouched in the 40-year history of the railroad, but it is truly unheard of in this era of inflation for prices to go lower.

Seating is limited for September Friday excursions. As with the weekend trips, the route will be serviced by vintage rail diesel cars, or RDCs.

Tickets may be purchased in advance by phone at 610-562-2102 or online at www.rbmnrr-passenger.com. With the coming of cooler weather, the Friday trains may very well prove to be as popular as those on Saturdays and Sundays.

Reading & Northern Railroad, with its corporate headquarters in Port Clinton, is a privately held railroad company serving over 80 customers in nine eastern Pennsylvania counties: Berks, Bradford, Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Northumberland, Schuylkill and Wyoming.
