Slatington awards $480K contract for Maple Spring Drive

Slatington Borough Council awarded a $480,857 contract last week to Ronnie C. Folk Paving to completely rebuild Maple Spring Drive from Route 873 to Slatington Elementary School.

Residents say the road has long been plagued with ruts, potholes and noise.

“I have thought about moving because this whole development, the roads are all like that of Maple Spring Drive,” said Darrell Nankivell, who has lived on the street for eight years.

“The noise that is made by cars, trucks and trailers hauling things is like a race track,” he said. “I am so thrilled that the borough will finally be redoing this road.”

The project will remove 10 inches of the existing road, add new base materials and finish with compacted asphalt for a smoother, more durable surface.

Also, council adopted a Hazard Mitigation Plan Resolution, aimed at reducing long-term risks from natural hazards.

In addition, members noted that under a new ordinance, residents with rear access to their homes will be required to display addresses prominently for emergency response.

The borough will provide the 3-foot-high signs, while residents will be responsible for installation.
