Tamaqua Council

Tamaqua Borough Council took the following actions during its recent meeting:

• Approved the closure of several streets on Oct. 12 for the annual Tamaqua Heritage Festival. The event will be hosted by the Tamaqua Odd Fellows from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on South Railroad Street.

• Approved a resolution to adopt the 2025 Schuylkill County Hazard Mitigation Plan. Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt said the county updates the plans every four to five years to denote potential hazards.

All county municipalities must adopt the plan in order to qualify for certain funding from Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.

• Voted in favor of updating ordinances regulating vehicles and traffic.

• Learned that bids for paving portions of Lafayette Street and Hegarty and Glenwood avenues are due this month.
