The Rehrig Bros. sing country favorites
They feed off the excitement of the crowds who can’t seem to get enough of their music, even after over six decades of performing.
The positive vibes and crowd reaction figures to reach a feverish pitch when The Rehrig Brothers perform from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday on the Main Stage at this year’s Palmerton Community Festival.
Dave Rehrig said the show is comprised of songs from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.
“We get a lot of people say it’s really great to hear classic country music; you don’t get to hear it much today,” Rehrig said. “It’s good to go back to our roots with how we grew up.”
Rehrig said that means classic country songs by artists such as Alan Jackson, George Strait, Charley Pride, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Randy Travis, a little bit of Elvis and a segment of Conway Twitty hits.
“The people are very receptive to our music,” he said. “They really get tuned in, which makes you feel good.”
Rehrig said the band especially loves playing at the venue, being from the Palmerton and Parryville area.
“We love playing local; it’s nice that they put us on board because we grew up there,” he said. “It’s a nice venue, we know a lot of the people, even the vendors that sell the food or do the games.”
Rehrig said the band makes it a point to fuel up at the food vendors.
“We love the food,” he said. “Especially the french fries and cheeseburgers.”
Above all else, Rehrig said the band is grateful to be able to continue to perform for its fans.
“We feel fortunate enough that we still have our health, still have our voice, still have our ability to play our instruments,” he said.
Rehrig said the band has been performing for over six decades years, and is comprised of twin brothers Dave Rehrig (lead vocals) and Dennis Rehrig (steel guitar), along with brother Dean Rehrig (keyboard).
“The Rehrig Family” formed a band in 1963 with their father, Frank “Pop” Rehrig.
After “Pop” Rehrig retired, the three sons changed the band name to Twitty Fever.
Dave Rehrig took a break from the band in 1989, and Dean and Dennis formed The Midnight Special Band.
In 1995, the Twitty Fever band re-formed.
Dennis performs with The Midnight Special Band.
The brothers decided to get together again as The Rehrig Brothers to perform in between their other two bands.
Dave Rehrig also does shows with his wife, Brenda, as the “Dave and Brenda Duo.”
