Lehighton votes to hire assistant manager Treasurer candidate also chosen

Lehighton has offered employment to fill two administrative positions.

Borough council at a special meeting Tuesday discussed applications received for the newly created assistant borough manager position, as well as a treasurer position.

Borough Manager Dane Dewire said council intended to interview six candidates for the treasurer position and three for the assistant borough manager post.

Borough council then went into an executive session, and then amended the meeting agenda to add discussion on the hiring of candidates for the vacancies.

Separate motions were then made to hire the top candidate for both positions, pending offer acceptance, background checks and preemployment screening.

After the meeting, DeWire declined to name the individuals until they accept the positions and pass their screenings.

The assistant borough manager position will provide management duties and clerical support to borough staff and residents under the direction of the borough manager.

The position will involve assisting in departmental supervision, strategic planning, capital planning, infrastructure, event coordination and information technology, among other things.

The advertised salary for the position is $55,000 to $65,000 based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package is included.

The borough is also seeking a borough treasurer.

The treasurer provides accounting duties and clerical support to the borough, including administering the municipality’s accounts payable, payroll, deposits, financial reports, taxes and pensions.

The advertised salary for the position is $50,000 to $60,000 based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package is included.
