PVM Open House

The Pleasant Valley Middle School is holding an open house today from 5-7 p.m.

Generous community

The United Way of Monroe County, with help from local partners and sponsors, helped provide over 2,300 backpacks and school supplies kits to students.

PVI events set

The open house at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday. The book fair will be held during the same time.

Legion meeting

American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert will be meeting from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the post home on Route 209.

Library’s track

The Western Pocono Community Library’s walking track in Brodheadsville is open six days of the week. Days and hours are: Monday, 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, noon-4:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; Thursday, noon-7:30 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Track hours are subject to change.

WE Food pantry

The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown is open from 9 a.m.-noon the first and third Saturday of the month.

Alzheimer’s walk

A walk to end Alzheimer’s is being held Saturday at the Northampton Community College in Tannersville.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. The opening ceremony starts at 10 a.m., while the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. Register at act.alz.org/monroePA.

Hoagies, dumplings

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville reminds all who ordered hoagies that they can be picked up from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday or 11:30-noon Sunday.

Also, the church’s Willing Workers are accepting orders for homemade apple dumplings through Sept. 28. Each homemade dumpling is individually packaged and ready to pop into the oven.

Special presentation

The Ross Township Historical Society is hosting a French & Indian War presentation by the Regiments De La Reine and British Pennsylvania Regiments on Sunday from noon-4 p.m. at the Van-Buskirk-Haney Park, 250 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

It is a free event. Reenactors will be dressed in period clothes and will answer questions and perform demonstrations. The historical museum will also be open. For more information, email judyj@ptd.net or coolemt07@yahoo.com.

Vet Fest event

Operation: Touch of Home’s Vet Fest event will be from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, with a rain date of Sunday.

The new location is Tri-Boro Sportsmen Association at 2110 Canal St., Northampton.

The venue will be available to vendors for setup at 8 a.m. Saturday. Setup must be completed by 10 a.m. Vendor booths must be manned the day of event, from start to finish. Breakdown will be after 5 p.m. Saturday.

Sunday school

Salem-St. Paul Sunday School, Kresgeville, for children in kindergarten through grade 12, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, with the start of the worship service opening. After that is concluded, the students go upstairs.

The following Sunday, the Sunday school children and youth begin collecting money for ELCA World Hunger and the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network’s food pantry and clothing closet.

Effort’s Basement Bunch (adult Sunday school class/Bible study) will reconvene on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. after the first worship service.

Classes will resume for all age groups at the 11 a.m. service time.

Family Rosary Bonfire

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will hold its family rosary bonfire from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the fire pit behind the pavilion. It will include a bonfire, s’mores, games and the rosary.

Council meeting

St. Matthew’s church council, Kunkletown, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. RJ Cramer is council president.

‘Comeback Party’

The youth of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, are holding a “Comeback Party” at 7 p.m. tonight.

Seekers resume

Effort UMC Seekers will resume their class at 10 a.m. Monday. Meetings are held in Friendship Hall.

Bingo at Legion

American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert will host bingo night on Monday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with card sales. First game is called at 7 p.m. Food and beverages available for purchase.

Golf fundraiser

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is hosting its annual golf tournament fundraiser on Sept. 9 at the Great Bear Golf Course.

Shawl Ministry

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet meetings at the church in Brodheadsville, are at 1 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Concert ahead

Effort UMC is hosting a concert in the pavilion on Sept. 13 featuring Eric McClean.

A light fare dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The concert starts at 6 p.m. A free-will offering will be collected for the band. Attendees are reminded to bring a lawn chairs and family and friends to the event.

PVEN needs

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network has announced its current needs: Food pantry — pancake mix, pancake syrup, coffee and tea, cake mix and frosting; Clothing Closet — body wash, deodorant, blankets/comforters, sheets, towels and washcloths, dental care products for children and adults, and razors; Diaper Pantry — baby food and formula, adult sized pull-ups and bed protection pads.

WE Missions

Sept. 11 is when Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding its next West End Missions dinner. It begins at 4:30 p.m.

Fall cleanup

Eldred Township will host its fall cleanup days on Sept. 12, from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sept. 13, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

There are tire disposal fees: car tires, $5; truck tires, $10; and large truck tires, $15.

All other services are free to Eldred residents.

Day of Caring

Pocono Mountain United Way’s Day of Caring will be held Sept. 18.

It begins with breakfast at 8 a.m. at Barley Creek, 1774 Sullivan Trail, Tannersville.

Registration is open. Volunteers can register at VolunteerMonroe.org.

Fusion Festival

Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, has announced its Fusion Festival, which is Sept. 12 through Sept. 14.

The church is inviting folks for a free weekend of music, food, ministry, fun, games and much more. Love offerings will be accepted any time during the event to help with costs.

People are invited to bring their own camping gear and camp.

Friday begins at 5 p.m. with dinner and family games followed by a movie, “The Forge.” The evening ends with a campfire Bible study.

Saturday will be filled with a variety of activities including breakfast at 8 a.m., games, three music groups and various fun activities.

Pastor Joe Pine and family will share their love of snakes and discuss Scriptural messages concerning them. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. More activities will follow, including a campfire Bible study.

Sunday starts with breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by worship service at 10:30 a.m.

Movie afternoon

St. Matthew’s ECC, Kunkletown, will host a family movie afternoon, from 3-5 p.m., Sept. 20.

Popcorn and drinks will be provided and folks attending can bring their favorite movie snack to share.

Attendees also can bring a favorite blanket or pillow “to create a comfy spot.”

Soup sale set

Effort UMC is holding a soup sale. The offerings are lentil with sausage and loaded baked potato.

The sale runs through Sept. 24, with pickup Sept. 28, after each worship service. Order forms are on the worship center at church.

Holistic fair

A holistic fair for the Ronald McDonald Houses along with the Masonic Lodge is being held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 28, as hosted by Healing Hands at the Barger Lodge site at 2720 Rimrock Road, Stroudsburg.

The event will include vendors, practitioners, tricky tray, kids craft table and a hot tea bar. There is an admission fee.

Rebate deadline

The deadline for Property Tax/Rent Rebate for applicants 65 or older, widows/widowers 50 or older, or 18 or older with a disability has been extended to Dec. 31.

The amount to be issued is based on the applicant’s annual income, which must have been $45,000 or less in 2024.
