Heidi Angelkorte got her journalism start in the print media. But the broadcasting area is her real love. And last week she was named news director of Lehighton radio station WYNS-AM.

The appointment of the 22-year-old journalism major is part of an all-new “regional” news format the station is instituting.

Angelkorte hails from Amherst, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Akron. Before coming to WYNS, she was the news director/public affairs director of WAUP Radio in Akron.

WYNS general manager Ron Adams said under her guidance, the station will expand its primary coverage from just Lehighton to the Tamaqua, Lansford, Palmerton, Slatington, Jim Thorpe, Walnutport, Northampton and Cherryville/Berlinsville areas.
