Jim Thorpe’s boys soccer team and the Palmerton field hockey squad both gained weekend victories.

BOYS SOCCER

Sch. Haven-Jim Thorpe

Blake Flyzik and Kayden Spence both scored two goals to lead Jim Thorpe to a 4-2 non-conference victory over Schuylkill Haven.

Flyzik also added an assists, while Maddox Day chipped in with a pair of helpers.

A big second half lifted Pottsville to a non-conference win over Lehighton.

After a scoreless first half, the Crimson Tide received goals from William Davis, Brogan Rooney and Brody Hess to earn the victory.

Rooney and Davis both added an assist.

Kaylee Diettrich’s goal in overtime lifted Palmerton to a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Wilson.

The Bombers’ keeper Sarah Sabo scored 23 saves to preserve her first shutout of the season.

Cliff Robbins Invitational

Tamaqua traveled to Misericordia University to take part in the 50th Annual Cliff Robbins Sr. Memorial Invitational.

Sophomore Aidan Elston led the way for the Blue Raiders, as he posted a program-best 21st place out of a field of 241 runners. Elston crossed the finish line in a time of 17:55.

Classmate Parker Steencken ended 37th with a time of 18:51.

Freshman Shaylee Gormley paced the Tamaqua girls, finishing in 37th out of 178 participants. Gormley’s time was 23:34.
